Learn to Silk Screen

*Please note this class has been postponed until a later date due to a show in Calgary! I am leaving it up so you will have the information for the next event if you are interested.

Ever wanted to learn how to silk screen, well here is your chance. I am opening up my studio again to teach all of those that want to learn. You will get a chance to bring your own artwork and I’ll work with you to show you how it is done to personalize and make your own projects. Each person will have access to one of the presses and all the equipment and supplies you will need, ink, screens etc. The only thing that will not be supplied is items you would like to screen on, shirts and other materials. I do have some extra items for you to practice on so you don’t waste too much of your good material though.

In this course you will learn how to burn your own screen, wash it out, how to prepare for screening, screen itself … of course, how to properly dry and then how to clean and take care of your screens for future use. The reality is that you will not always have access to screening equipment, so you’ll learn how to take your knowledge with you and apply it to smaller screens that are easy to use at home.

Class Times
Day 1
Learn the basics of how it is done in order to prepare for your own designs later. You will learn what is required in order for your artwork to screen properly. On this day you will see the process from start to finish and get a chance to screen so you have a feel for it. On this day you just need to bring yourself.

Day 2
Using your own design you’ll make your very own screen and setup to screen your own work this time. The day will be spent working with your own artwork and understanding the do’s and don’ts. I will be there to help you with ever step as needed.

Day 3
Now that you have a the knowledge the day is yours to bring other designs, continue with what you started on Saturday, really it is up to you. At the end you’ll learn how to properly clean up the screens and keep them in amazing condition.

Goal: The goal by the end is to make sure you have something you are proud of and the knowledge needed to continue with your new art medium.
Course length: 13 hours
Price: $185 *gst included
Included: All of your equipment and screens. You should be bringing your own fabrics and textiles, never washed or worn if possible. If you are wanting to screen on wood and other items best to talk to me at the first class so you don’t purchase material that might not work.
Size of class: Max of 5 people who must be over the age of 16. If you are under 18 you will need a letter signed by your parent or guardian to attend.
Location: Studio in the back of 10573A – 114St. Edmonton, AB

Please provide correct email and contact information when checking out so I have the ability to contact you with any additional information leading up to the classes. If you are signing up for more than one person please include their email address in the comment field so I have that as well.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact and ask me at whiteoutworkshop(at)hotmail.com. Also note if you have a group of 3 – 6 we can also run a private class for you.

NOW HIRING!!!

I am now hiring and looking for the most wonderful person possible! If you are reading this ad, chances are you know what my business is all about. As of right now this is a one person show with the help of my mom. After last year and the success I am looking to bring on a PT person, which will possibly turn into FT the closer to Christmas.

Who I am looking for:
I am looking for an energetic and outgoing person who loves being around art and is involved in the handmade world, even if that means you just go to shows. They would be motivated to think bigger and are a self starter. It is important they can learn quickly and are able to think on a dime to problem solve situations. I am looking for a professionally minded person that also knows how to let loose and have fun.

Job Requirements:
The main job I am hiring for is help at my shows. You would be required to manage your own little shop per say. You would be responsible to pack up for the show and then setup to sell. More often than not this will be at a farmers market during the summer, or at the various festivals I attend in the city. It is important and required that you hold a license and are an insured driver as you will need to drive a vehicle to the shows (I promise not to buy one that is too embarrassing to drive). Please note almost all shows fall on a Saturday or a weekend.

I will also need help in other day to day fun! Anything from creating a blog post, shipping online orders, helping me sort and prepare shirts or if we get a small retail space again, help customers upfront. You need to be available for 90% of Saturday through the summer and 2 other days during the week. Preferably Thursday and Friday, but time in those days would be flexible. The job might evolve into different needs for hours however.

Bonus’ to me:
This would include a design background and retail experience. None of this is totally needed as I can teach you these skills since a personality and a great head on your shoulders is the most important.

Perks!
Since your main focus will be selling at shows your pay is not only hourly, but will be based on a bonus structure. The better the day … the more you make! Can’t complain about that. Plus you will get HUGE discounts on all the products we make and sell. You will also have opportunity in the future to travel to shows which included Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto … for now. On top of all that if you come to lets say a Folk Fest you get free passes to enjoy the event as well if we are working together.

How to apply: If you are interested in applying please send an email to whiteoutworkshop (at) hotmail.com telling me a bit about yourself, past experience that will be helpful to this position and why you would want this job … besides making some money of course. It is very important to me you take pride in what this business is about since it is my life and I LOVE what I do. I can’t expect you to love it as much as I do, but pretty close!
Submission deadline: Now Feb 5th, 2012
Start Date: Beginning of April, or if you are a student currently it can we worked around.
Please leave March 17th – 18th open as well to possibly attend our silkscreening class free!
