Learn to Silk Screen

*Please note this class has been postponed until a later date due to a show in Calgary! I am leaving it up so you will have the information for the next event if you are interested.

Ever wanted to learn how to silk screen, well here is your chance. I am opening up my studio again to teach all of those that want to learn. You will get a chance to bring your own artwork and I’ll work with you to show you how it is done to personalize and make your own projects. Each person will have access to one of the presses and all the equipment and supplies you will need, ink, screens etc. The only thing that will not be supplied is items you would like to screen on, shirts and other materials. I do have some extra items for you to practice on so you don’t waste too much of your good material though.

In this course you will learn how to burn your own screen, wash it out, how to prepare for screening, screen itself … of course, how to properly dry and then how to clean and take care of your screens for future use. The reality is that you will not always have access to screening equipment, so you’ll learn how to take your knowledge with you and apply it to smaller screens that are easy to use at home.

Class Times
Day 1
Learn the basics of how it is done in order to prepare for your own designs later. You will learn what is required in order for your artwork to screen properly. On this day you will see the process from start to finish and get a chance to screen so you have a feel for it. On this day you just need to bring yourself.

Day 2
Using your own design you’ll make your very own screen and setup to screen your own work this time. The day will be spent working with your own artwork and understanding the do’s and don’ts. I will be there to help you with ever step as needed.

Day 3
Now that you have a the knowledge the day is yours to bring other designs, continue with what you started on Saturday, really it is up to you. At the end you’ll learn how to properly clean up the screens and keep them in amazing condition.

Goal: The goal by the end is to make sure you have something you are proud of and the knowledge needed to continue with your new art medium.
Course length: 13 hours
Price: $185 *gst included
Included: All of your equipment and screens. You should be bringing your own fabrics and textiles, never washed or worn if possible. If you are wanting to screen on wood and other items best to talk to me at the first class so you don’t purchase material that might not work.
